Update: Amazon recently released two new Alexa-powered devices, the tap and the Dot. We will be posting reviews on those products shortly.
Amazon Echo has been a sensational hit for Amazon since its release last year. It triples as a personal assistant (powered by their Siri-like “Alexa” persona), an omni-directional home speaker that plays music from Prime Music, Spotify, Pandora, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and a Smart Home Hub that connects with many other popular smart products.
The Echo can be activated by the sound of your voice “Hey Alexa…” or through their iOS, Android or Amazon Fire apps. Alexa, who is the brain behind Echo, tap and Dot, is built in the AWS cloud, so it is continually getting smarter. According to Amazon, the more you use Echo, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary, and personal preferences.
I think the fact that they built in Hub features into the Echo is whats going to make this product have lasting power. There are only so many “Hey Alexa” jokes that you can do before it gets old.
